Can Wearing Hats Cause Hair Loss. It has long been told that wearing hats can cause hair loss, shaving your head can strengthen your hair, etc. Does wearing a hat cause baldness?
Anabel Kingsley: Hats do not cause hair loss. Many men wear hats to cover their balding, so the association of balding and hats has been clearly recognized for centuries. Dirty hats can, however, lead to a scalp infection, which in turn accelerates hair loss, so either make sure yours is clean or rotate frequently.
If wearing it for long - or even short - periods of time causes discomfort and/or headaches then it is too tight which, whilst far less likely than genetics - the primary cause of common hair loss.
Hair loss can also happen when hair follicles are ruined and replaced by scar tissue, which could possibly happen if you're wearing a very tight hat.
